YKCS@Home offers an online education option for families seeking the flexibility of home learning while ensuring that students receive instruction from Alberta-certified teachers. Our online educators create optimal virtual learning environments while addressing each student's unique needs. Parents remain integral to their child's progress and collaborate with teachers to ensure academic success. The level of parental involvement varies depending on the child’s age, learning needs, and grade level.

Program Details

  • Certified Teachers: YKCS@Home teachers are responsible for planning, instruction, and assessment of required core and elective courses aligned with the Alberta Program of Studies.
  • Flexible Learning: The curriculum is delivered through a mix of synchronous and asynchronous lessons 
    Access to Resources: Students and parents can access course materials, assignments, grades, and teacher feedback at all times.
  • Extracurricular Activities: Students can participate in YKCS@Home and YKCS field trips, special events, extracurricular activities, and community programs (fees may apply).
  • Technical Requirements: Reliable internet access and necessary hardware must be in place for an optimal learning experience.
  • Parent Involvement: Supervisors (parents) play a crucial role in supporting student accountability and success.

Enrollment Steps

  1. Review Requirements: Ensure you meet the technology and supervision requirements.
  2. Gather Documentation: Provide a copy of the child's birth certificate and recent report card (if applicable).
  3. Complete Registration: Submit the online registration form.
  4. Meet Your Teacher: Connect with an assigned facilitator to guide you through the program setup.
  5. Establish a Learning Routine: Set up a study schedule, create a portfolio, and track progress throughout the year.

Print-Based Distance Education

YKCS@Home also offers a print-based distance education program for elementary students (Grades 1-6), allowing families to blend at-home learning with teacher-guided instruction. This option provides flexibility while ensuring access to structured educational materials and support.
