Meet the Staff

Our school is full of exceptional people – students, staff, parents and extended community – made great by the grace of God living and working in us. Though small, we meet the diverse needs of many different students by the caring dedication of staff and the many different ways the school is supported by those who help us in various ways to realize our mission.

All systems of education have a particular goal in mind - a vision for what students would become - and this goal guides curriculum development, lesson planning, and school culture.

We at YKCS are a community of learners seeking to grow into the fullness of what God would have us be, we are all disciples of Christ. Since education is about becoming a certain kind of person, while learning many facts and picking up useful skills, education at YKCS is about becoming people who love, are wise, good, and joy-filled, delighting in Christ and being led by the Spirit. In this, it is our hope that students will be prepared for a life of service in the world that will glorify God.

It is our honor to provide leadership to Yellowhead Koinonia Christian School and we hope you can get a good sense of who we are as you explore the website or come visit us in person,

Principal

All my life I wanted to be a teacher. My passion for education revolves around the joy that comes from seeing a student get a concept for the first time.  As my career has developed my passion has as well. Now, as Principal, I not only look for the aha moments among students but in staff, and the organization as a whole. It is a blessing to serve the YKCS community.

I started my education career as a music teacher and after 7 years moved into Administration.  After serving 9 years at Drayton Christian School, I felt led to work in the student services area for 3 years before coming to Yellowhead Koinonia Christian School.

I'm looking forward to seeing what God has in store for us this year!

Gr. 4/5 Teacher

I teach elementary.  I  have three kids aged about 14, 12, and 9, and a lovely young wife.  We love sports and I’m into hockey, volleyball,  baseball, and coaching those as well.

We love traveling and have enjoyed Japanese roadside markets, the California Redwoods, cannon-balling on Kelowna’s Okanagan Lake, and a bit of tent-trailering in our native Alberta.  I have studied at Canadian Bible College (Regina), Regent College (Vancouver), Trinity Western (Abbotsford), Ambrose and St. Mary’s (Calgary).   I have taught various ages for many years but there is always something new to learn and always a powerful dynamic in the classroom.

Please pray along with me that your children and all at YKCS grow in their academics, friendships, and relationships with God this year!

Gr 1/2 Teacher

In 2016, God kept bringing the YKCS job posting to mind.  I enjoy both teaching and traveling, and God keeps bringing me back to Edson.  I’ve taught in Brooks, AB, Edson, AB, Nojack, AB, and Via Gracia, Bolivia.  This is my 5th year at YKCS and I have the privilege of teaching grade 1-2 again this year.

When I’m not in the classroom, I enjoy being out in nature - walking, hiking, biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing, being a part of Bible studies, reading, canning and hosting guests.

I believe discipleship is a way of life - both to become more like Jesus myself and to be actively involved in pointing those around me to Jesus.

Jude 24-25 “To him who is able to keep you from stumbling and to present you before his glorious presence without fault and with great joy— to the only God our Savior be glory, majesty, power and authority, through Jesus Christ our Lord, before all ages, now and forevermore! Amen.”

Jr/Sr English

It is interesting to return to a place where you once lived and taught, albeit several years ago! It is great to be back in Edson after living in Three Hills, AB for 9 years. Regarding education, my BA is from Trinity Western University, a double major in English and Education with a Music minor.  I completed my BEd at The King's University in Edmonton. I also went to Northwest Baptist Theological College for one year after high school graduation.

Speaking of graduation, I was in the YKCS Class of ‘92! Most of my 12 years were at Yellowhead Christian School. In my third year of university, I came home for a “break” and ended up subbing for three months. Much later, I taught preschool in 2006, and then high school Bible, Social and English from 2008 to 2012. It seems YKCS has been an integral part of my life journey.

I also taught at Living Truth Christian School (6 yr), Prairie Christian Academy (EA and Speech, 3 yr), and White Rock Christian Academy (1 yr). I’ve done stints as a piano/voice teacher in various locales.

My most rewarding role, however, is mom to a lovely daughter and amazing son, and wife to my husband Dylan. I enjoy the mountains, walking, music, writing, podcasts, and drinking coffee or tea with a classic novel in the other hand.

Preschool

Hello there! I am Justine Kerr and I head up the Preschool Program at YKCS. I am a Saskatchewan girl who has called Edson home since 2007. I started teaching at YKCS in 2020. I am a mom to three active kiddos who keep me on my toes. Our family enjoys spending time together on our acreage as well as in the nearby mountains exploring.

I love the preschool age, the children are so engaging, curious and full of energy. Enriching the children's growth in all areas of development has been such a blessing and honor to be a part of. The early years are such an important part of children's success in later years and we aim to learn through play and exploration in our classroom. Each individual is valued and loved.

I should also mention we have SO much fun together!

Homeschool Facilitator

Hi there! I am Mrs. Reimers, the Homeschool Facilitator and Distance Education Teacher at YKCS. I grew up in a hamlet near the Southernmost tip of Canada and graduated from the University of Windsor, Ontario with a Bachelor of Music and English and a Bachelor of Education. I have a passion for teaching piano, band, and choir, so when I landed a Music Teacher job in Whitecourt, AB in 2012, I packed my bags and didn’t look back. Pursuing a job as a teacher was always my calling but I never imagined I would end up homeschooling my own kids and sharing my love of home education with other families.

As the Homeschool Facilitator at YKCS, I help families feel prepared and confident with their learning at home and help them network and make social connections and friendships with other homeschoolers. In my “spare” time I tend to the chickens and cows on my little farm in Yellowhead County and play baseball and frisbee with my kids. I’m looking forward to another great year with the YKCS Homeschoolers as we get out and about in the community to learn and connect!

If you have any questions about homeschooling or distance learning, please contact me at liz.reimers@ykcschool.com.
