HI YKCS Community,
I wanted to let you know that we have been doing our best to look after the students and staff. This morning I was in communication with our HVAC contractor to find what settings our system would be best on. We did our best to cool the school down and then shut off the vents that did not have the best filters.
This morning our Board Chairperson, Shane Vanderkooi and I reviewed the evacuation policy and then I contacted 1 church in each community we believed we could be sent to if there was an evacuation that needed to be done quickly.
In the event of an evacuation being required during the school day, we would have a phone fan out system to see if parents could get to their children before we evacuated the school. If that was possible we have a detailed sign out system to make sure that no child or staff member is missed.
We also have made contact with a bussing company and know that we could have a bus if needed. For any families who could not get their students before we evacuated, they would be transported to a church in a safe community and that information would be shared with the family to come and pick up their child(ren).
Please know that during days like today, bussing may be cancelled on certain routes at any time. If you are contacted with a cancellation, please reach out to the school at 780-783-3450 or my cell phone at 780-720-1275. We will make sure that all students have a ride before the last staff leaves the school today.
Since there is quite a bit of ash in the air we will keep the students inside until the bus or their rides come. The bus will come to the front door. Parents if you could come to the Gym entrance we will have parent driven students waiting inside that entrance to be picked up.
Please know that the safety of your children and our staff are our main priority. In the coming days, if you have questions regarding evacuations please reach out by email to principal@ykcschool.com or call/text 780-720-1275.
We will continue to watch the situation and do our best to be viligent.
